More Women at the Helm: Boating Basics for Women at Tristram Marine

Tristram Marine was proud to welcome nearly 40 women into our showroom for a fantastic evening of learning, conversation and connection at Boating Basics for Women, presented by Wild Chix.

Hosted the night before the opening of the NZ Boat Fish & Dive Expo, the evening was designed to create a relaxed and welcoming environment where women could grow their boating knowledge, ask questions and build the confidence to become more involved on the water.

Knowledge, Curiosity & Plenty of Questions

Leading the evening was Wild Chix founder Isabell Zitzelsberger, whose passion for helping women become more confident and capable boaties was evident from the moment the session began.

Isabell shared her knowledge across a wide range of practical boating topics, breaking things down in an approachable and easy-to-understand way. From boating terminology and safety to navigation, weather, trip planning and everyday life on the water, the evening gave attendees plenty of practical knowledge to take away with them.

But it was Isabell’s enthusiasm and genuine passion for boating that really resonated.

The feedback throughout the evening was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees praising Isabell’s knowledge, approachable teaching style and ability to make boating feel accessible — regardless of previous experience.

Building Confidence on the Water

For us, the success of the evening wasn’t simply having a full room.

It was seeing women asking questions, sharing experiences, meeting other boaties and leaving the showroom with more knowledge and confidence than when they arrived.

Boating is at its best when everyone onboard feels comfortable getting involved — whether that’s understanding what’s happening at the helm, helping launch and retrieve the boat, reading the conditions, communicating on the VHF or eventually taking the wheel themselves.

That’s exactly what initiatives like Wild Chix are helping to achieve.

A Fantastic Night at Tristram Marine

With nearly 40 women joining us at Tristram Marine, the atmosphere throughout the evening was relaxed, social and incredibly positive.

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Isabell and Wild Chix for bringing Boating Basics for Women to Tristram Marine, and for the energy, expertise and passion Isabell brought to the evening.

And, of course, thank you to every woman who joined us.

Your enthusiasm, questions and willingness to get involved are what made the night such a success.

We hope everyone left with a little more knowledge, a lot more confidence, and an even greater enthusiasm for getting out on the water.

Here’s to more women at the helm.
